Table Tennis
The group started in May 2007 and has increased in numbers. We play on the 1st and 4th Thursdays of the month from 10.00 to 11.30 a.m. at the Angel Centre. We pay approximately £1 per session (subject to minor changes) to cover the hire of the hall. We aim to have fun and exercise. It is hoped that players will make a regular commitment. Please provide your own bat if possible. Newcomers welcome
Take One Day
Every member buys and reads a different paper on one pre- selected day. Each month a different member chooses up to three topics from their paper and lets the other members know what they are. At the group meeting, all members share the point of view of the paper they read regarding these topics. We shall also keep an eye out for any developments that may have occurred since the publication day. We meet in the morning on the 3rd Wednesday of the month.
Theatre Visits
All visits are open to every member of Tonbridge U3A.
We plan to book about ten theatre outings in this coming year (serious drama, comedies, musicals and ballet). These will usually be matinees and most will be in London (travel by train). Some local performances will also be included (travel by car), and one theatre trip by coach.
Information and booking forms can be found in the monthly newsletter. Early application is strongly advised
The Rest is Noise
An introduction to twentieth century music for the wholly ignorant. The group is strictly for those whose education omitted all formal instruction. It will follow the chapters in 'The Rest is Noise' by Alex Ross (£8-£12 from Amazon). Each month the group will read the next chapter and the leader for that month will pursue the leads in the book at greater depth. He or she will gather relevant recordings, reference material, etc. and will enrich the group's knowledge and understanding of the lives and works covered by the chapter. Themes from the music, and further information, are available at the website with this title. Do try it! Also try YouTube.
The group will meet for one hour in different homes on the 3rd Thursdays at 11.00 a.m.
