Patchwork and Quilting 1 & 2
Beginners work on a year-long project making a “sampler quilt”, sewn either by hand or machine. More experienced quilters work in groups on their own projects. Meetings are held twice a month by arrangement in Weald.
Philosophy
The philosophy group is a self-help group, studying modern Western philosophy. It will centre on Longman Standard History of 20th Century as an agenda, supplemented by the lives and philosophies of individual philosophers where appropriate. It is suitable for those who wish to expand any prior knowledge of philosophy, however limited
Meetings are held every 2nd Friday of the month.
Play Reading
This group meets on the second Thursday of each month to read a wide variety of plays from Shakespeare to modern. No acting talent required.
Poetry for Pleasure
This group meets on the 3rd Thursday of the month at 10.00 a.m. The purpose of the group is simply to enjoy reading poetry (one or two members sometimes write their own) with comments perhaps but no serious analysis. We choose a theme in advance and do our best to find poems which are relevant to it, usually reading two or three each.
The range is a wide as we like to make it - Pam Ayres, Wordsworth, Wilfred Owen. A very informal and relaxed group that meets on the 3rd Thursday of each month.
Scrabble 1 and 2
Friendly monthly get together for people who enjoy scrabble.
These two groups meet on the first Thursday and Friday respectively of each month.
Strolling
A new group for those who enjoy walking but cannot go further or faster at present. Dogs may come too, at leader’s discretion. Fair weather strolls from March to October. Meet on 2nd and 4th week in the month, on a different day to suit all. Approximately 2 miles in 1¾ hours. Pub or picnic lunch at 1.00 p.m. Members must take turns in pre-strolling and leading a stroll, with help.
