TONBRIDGE U3A TRAVEL
Tonbridge U3A Travel consists of a team of nine U3A members’ who research, plan and lead outings covering a wide range of venues having an element of learning including architecture, history, art, gardens etc which also including an element of leisure. Day outings take place monthly throughout the year with a weeks ‘stay away’ annually alternating between the UK and Europe. An additional short ‘stay away’ is also organised at some point during a year. Travel is normally by coach.
Costs are kept to a minimum covering travel, venues, guides when necessary, driver’s gratuity and administration expenses.
A combined information sheet and application form for each outing is published prior to the event and included in the monthly newsletter.
All outings are open to all paid up members of Tonbridge U3A by completing the appropriate application form. Pre-booking is not accepted.
Where outings are over-subscribed a secret ballot is undertaken by the organisers and any members not included in the ballot are notified accordingly. A reserve list is compiled so that if a cancellation should arise then members on that list are given the opportunity to attend the outing. Consideration is given to re-run the outing in the following year should there be a significant number of application refusals.
Any free entry places given by the tour companies used are included in the overall price of the outing for the benefit of the members keeping the price as low as possible.
All travel team members either organising the outing or travelling as individual U3A members pay the full outing price that other members pay.
